FEATURED ARTISTS

Susan Goetz Zwirn

Susan Goetz Zwirn is a painter and art educator whose work blends realism and abstraction, focusing on landscapes and figurative compositions. Inspired by her travels to Italy and India, as well as her surroundings in New York and California, her paintings evoke a deep sense of place and emotion. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is included in private and corporate collections.

Bio: Zwirn holds degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design and Columbia University. A dedicated arts educator, she has taught at institutions such as Cornell and Hofstra University. Now based in Tiburon, California, she creates from her studio at the Novato Arts Center.

Painting in a Tuscany Manor Stable: Painting in Italy had always been a dream of mine. This experience in Tuscany combined my love for painting, travel, and teaching. After leading student trips to study art in Italy, I sought out a small school in a remote part of Tuscany for my own artistic explorations. With limited space in the classroom studio, the director took me deep into the quiet countryside to paint. This was not the picturesque, tourist-filled Tuscany—it was rugged, remote, and sweltering, with temperatures soaring to 95 degrees. The heat and intensity of the day found their way into my palette, as I used bold, warm colors to capture the essence of the moment and place.

Stephanie zaczek

After a science focused formal education, a decades long health care career, and raising 2 lovely children with my husband in Tiburon, I decided to turn my attention to painting. In my pursuit to capture the beauty of the world around me, I had to learn how to harness the power of color and light to help me, express and communicate. The process has been a fascinating, enriching and humbling experience.

Artists Statement: This cheerful Coffee Cups representation depicts 12 different color schemes. The colors selected are based upon the Color Wheel - a simple visual tool that shows the relationship among different colors.

The color schemes are as follows, shown by row from left to right: Top Row: Monochromatic, Analogous, Complementary, Triadic, Middle Row: Tetrad, Split Complementary, Analogous Complementary, All Neutral, Bottom Row: Neutral and Saturated, All Saturated, High Key, Anything Goes.
